   Whitaker Ranch Wedding Tips

1. Budget: It is very easy for wedding expenses to get out of hand.  Keep it simple. The wedding is to show your commitment to one another. Not to impress your friends and family.  Try to pay as you go. Coming home from your honeymoon to a stack of wedding bills is not the way to start off a new marriage.

2. Make sure everyone you’re doing business with has your name and number.  If anything comes up and someone needs contact you make sure they have the bride’s home phone, cell phone and Groom’s home phone and cell on all wedding items.

3. Be sure that every important detail of your wedding is put in print. Make sure everyone understands your wants and needs. Be sure you have enough time to enjoy your wedding 5 hr min.

4. Make sure you know who you’re doing business with, ask for references.  If you book a photographer, make sure that you know the name of the photographer coming. Meet with him/her and make sure they understand your expectations.  When you hire anyone make sure you understand who will be representing them. The last thing you want is someone putting on a dance mix cd so they can  mingle with your single guest at your expense.

5. Delegate. The stress on your wedding day can be enormous, have other members of your wedding party help with the little things.

6. Plan ahead.  Start on your invitations as soon as they are printed, do 5 or 6 a night until they are all done, then wait till you’re ready to mail them. Try addressing the thank you cards as you go along as well, then after the wedding all you have to do is fill out the inside.  Make a list for the DJ of ceremony music, and if you have a dance afterwards make a “do not play” list. Every couple has songs that bring back old memories, make sure they don’t spoil your perfect evening.  The DJ will play the music to keep your crowd going.

7. Its as easy to buy a full meal, as it is to buy snack foods. You can get a caterer to serve for about $8 per person. Remember price out all of your food and drinks, and then add cups, plates, silverware, napkins, and ice. Next, add in your time and labor of chasing down all of these items, preparing them and then cleaning up afterwards. $6- $8 is cheap.

8. Do all you can the week before.  Make labels for the flowers, which flower goes to whom.  Pack all the things your taking and pack them in large plastic containers.  Nuts, cake knives, cake server, candles, registration book, pen, disposable cameras and matches are things you don’t want to forget. Put a list of what’s in the box on top of it.

9. Rehearse your wedding several times, make sure everyone knows where and when they are to be in position.  Smaller children look great before a wedding, but remember they are children, it is often impossible to get them to participate like an adult for a half hour to an hour when even the adults have trouble. Children often get scared and run back down the isle, or begin to daydream.  Use them for small parts and then allow them to go back and sit with their parents or grandparents.

10.  Have your wedding for yourselves. It’s your wedding. It’s for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, till death do you part. Take the advice everyone will give you.  Everyone else has either already been married or soon will be. Then plan your wedding as you want!
